So you are thinking of getting a new fluffy collie puppy.  You have done your research, talked to other collie owners or possibly you have had a collie in the past.  You are aware that you have a certain responsibility to this fluffy ball of fur.  Your responsibilities are to love this animal unconditionally for its entire life; provide adequate medical care and attention; provide it with a nice comfortable place to sleep whether it be outdoors or inside your house; a fenced yard in which to run and play; to provide it with the necessary exercise; to provide it with the best quality food possible as well as fresh water daily; to assure that it will be embraced by the community by seeing that it is well socialized, obedience trained for basic social skills and does not cause a nuisance to the neighborhood.

In turn as a breeder MY responsibility to you is to assure that the puppy you desire has been bred with the utmost care and concern.  To see that pedigrees have been researched for any health problems, to maintain my dogs health to the best possible condition, to assure that both sire and dam have had all the necessary health clearances prior to breeding.  I will provide this pup with love, attention and proper infant socialization.  To continue with the necessary health and vet checks which include an eye check by a board certified VO, well puppy health check, scheduled vaccinations, MDR1 testing and micro-chipping.

In order to follow through with my responsibilities I have put forth many hours of my time researching studs, pedigrees, talking to other breeders and any other information I can acquire.  I have invested a lot of money in health clearances and genetic testing and stud fees are also higher when the stud owners have also put time and money into their dogs to assure that they are benefiting the breed by offering a quality dog at stud.  When done properly there is little to no money to be made in breeding quality dogs, so therefore I try and keep my cost to you at a "break even" point for me.  It is not unusual to have $3000 invested in a litter of pups between the time the bitch comes into season and the litter hits the ground - that DOES NOT include the OFA cost, annual VO test, and any DNA testing which has been done on the sire/dam.  So before you consider that lower cost puppy take a moment and think about what it takes to produce a litter of quality, healthy pups and hopefully you will come away with a better understanding.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
